Date: the first Wednesday of every month (except January)
When: starting at 6.00pm

Why: The IVP committee meets on these occasions to discuss general issues and policies.

Asia-Pacific Peace Education Seminar
13 to 17 July 2010

YHA Katoomba
(followed by SCI Asia Platform Meeting on 18 July 2010
and
Interfaith Dialogue Workcamp at Shalom, Carcoar
from 23 July to 1 August 2010

Join skilled peace educators and activists from 11 Asia-Pacific organisations and support the development of a culture of peace in our region.

Aims
Peace education, skills development, regional cooperation and capacity-building of grassroots peace organisations in the Asia-Pacific.

Objectives
• Develop and strengthen the skills of Peace Messengers, peace activists and peace educators
• Strategies for sustainable peace-building initiatives in the Asia Pacific for the next 5 years
• Motivate and inspire participants to promote a culture of peace and active non-violence
• Increase awareness and visibility of IVP/SCI, their work and achievements over 90 years

Activities
• Peace Skills training and development
• Exploring intercultural dialogue
• Facilitated workshops, inspirational speakers
• Reflection on contemporary and cultural obstacles to the advancement of peace
• Best practice in local contexts
• Developing a vision for working collaboratively in the region for peace

Submit your application form to attend – Word and PDF versions available.

Broader participation (not just IVP members) will be enabled with some places reserved for participants who are not members of SCI or IVP and with sessions of general interest to be open to the public.

A number of sessions are open for casual attendance (i.e. for people other than full seminar participants):

- What is peace? (Wed 14th June, 11am-12.30pm)
- Non-violence (Thurs 15th June, 2pm - 3.30pm)
- Peace opportunities in Asia-Pacific (Thurs 15th June, 4pm - 5.30pm)
- UNRES 1325 Gender and Peace (Sat 17th June, 9-10.30am)
- UNRES 1325 Gender and Peace, continued (Sat 17th, 11am- 12.30pm)
- Friday evening from 6.30pm: meet the delegates and view the photo exhibition.

Each of these sessions is $20 with concession $15. Pay at the door.

A gathering for
International Day of Peace

     • Shared lunch (IVP will provide drinks, please bring some food to share)
     • Peace workshop presented by IVP
     • Lively discussion on peace with members of:
          - International Volunteers for Peace (IVP)
          - People for Nuclear Disarmament (PND)
          - Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)
          - Australian Anti-Bases Coalition (AABC).
     • Performance by peace-activist singer, Margaret Walters.

Gold coin donation to cover hire of hall.

This year, the United Nations will use International Day of Peace to ask governments and citizens of the world to focus on the important issues of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation through the WeMustDisarm! campaign. This date, incidentally, comes just a few days before President Obama will chair a Security Council meeting on nuclear non-proliferation.
