Help prepare for construction of a cyclone shelter, Bangladesh

In November, 2007, the enormous cyclone SIDR attacked the southern part of Bangladesh. It caused tremendous damage to lives and property including over 4,000 people dead /missing. SCI Bangladesh made an appeal to organize relief activities with participation of international volunteers including from Japan. In 2008, SCI Japan and SCI Bangladesh jointly conducted a field survey to investigate real need of the victims. Based on the report prepared by the three-person survey team, SCI Bangladesh and Japan decided to construct a cyclone shelter which, during normal times, can also serve as a medical centre and community center for local people. Our objective is not only to construct a cyclone shelter as a facility but also to provide amenities to the local community that encourage people to live in peace. Read more about the international design competition.
