Service Civil International (SCI) has published its Annual Report 2025. It covers a year of work across the SCI movement: volunteer projects and campaigns, the activities of its branches, its finances and decision-making, and the year’s statistics.

IVP Australia in the report

SCI’s Regranting Fund supports activities by branches and groups outside the European Union that share SCI’s core values and would otherwise be hard to fund. In 2025 it funded five projects, including IVP Australia’s Peace Across the Sea. The photo at the top of this post is the one SCI’s report page shows for the project (photo: SCI).

Peace Across the Sea was a joint project of IVP Australia and the Bhumi Horta Foundation, with Mauro Carta from SCI Italy, funded by SCI. IVP Australia helped design a program to develop peace activists and motivate action for peace. Ten participants from Indonesia and ten from Australia took part in four online training sessions on peace education and project management. IVP then helped them design and carry out their own local actions, from a university discussion on reducing waste and urban composting in a small village with no garbage disposal, to a primary school permaculture project and leading a volunteer camp.

The other projects funded were Volunteer for Peace – VCV20 (VCV Serbia), Harnessing the Power of Volunteerism (Zimbabwe Workcamps Association), Boost and Revitalize Albanian Volunteering (PVN Albania) and the Peace Building and Environmental Protection Initiative (VWAN Nigeria).

SCI’s year in numbers

  • 116 volunteer camps and 941 volunteers: 743 on volunteer camps and 198 on long-term volunteering or special programs.
  • For 74.5% of volunteers it was their first camp.
  • Most volunteers (57.9%) were aged 18 to 25, and 2.5% were over 65.
  • Many camps focused on protecting the environment; art, culture and local history; and community life. Others worked with children and young people, alongside people with disabilities, or for peace, disarmament and antiracism.
  • SCI has 41 branches and an ever-growing number of partner organisations (94 at the time of the report).
  • SCI’s international accounts for 2025 show income of €717,679 and expenditure of €734,744.

The year’s work was guided by SCI’s Strategic Plan 2024–2027 (PDF). In her message, SCI’s International President, Antonella di Matteo, writes that in a divided world, “collective practices of resistance to the logics of hate and war” matter more than ever.
