Terms and Conditions for Volunteer Projects

The aims of IVP are to promote peace, international understanding and solidarity, social justice, sustainable development and respect for the environment. IVP believes that all people are capable of living together with mutual respect and without recourse to any form of violence to solve conflicts.

Motivation for applying

IVP tries to place every volunteer on the project of their choice. However, we do and will take into account your motivation for applying to volunteer, and reserve the right to not place you on a project.

Please remember that you must include a statement about your motivation for applying for each project. Your statement should include information on why you have chosen the project, and what you expect from it.

Some projects, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America as well as some projects in Asia, require a more detailed motivation letter.

Additional costs on arrival to workcamps

Extra participation fees apply to workcamps in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America. The exact amount will be clearly stated on the information about each individual project. Please refer to the Guide to International Volunteering (Section 14), or the website under Fees and Costs for more information on these extra costs.

Insurance

The SCI/IVP insurance scheme provides cover for volunteers in cases of illness, accidents or death for the duration of the camp for all our workcamps. Please read the Guide to International Volunteering (Section 14), or refer to the Frequently Asked Questions on the website for more information. IVP strongly recommends that all volunteers obtain their own comprehensive insurance coverage before departing from Australia.

Cancellations and refunds

IVP cannot accept any liability for inconvenience caused or costs incurred, other than the application fee, in the event of cancellation, either by you or of the  workcamp itself. The following Cancellation and Refund Policy applies to all workcamp applications.

If IVP cannot place you on any of your workcamp preferences, you are entitled to a full refund of your application fee minus an administration fee.

If the volunteer cancels:

  • Giving notice more than 4 weeks before the workcamp start date – 50% of the Application Fee will be refunded
  • Giving notice less than 4 weeks before the workcamp start date – no refund of Application Fee

Situations will be reviewed on a case by case basis, if extraordinary circumstances can be established.

Workcamp cancellation

If the workcamp is cancelled after volunteers have been accepted, IVP will make every effort to find a suitable alternative workcamp for you. However, if the workcamp is cancelled close to its scheduled commencement, it may not be possible to offer you another camp. If this is the case, IVP will fully refund your Application Fee, minus an administration fee of $15.

SCI expects the volunteer to participate in the whole programme, including orientation and evaluation. Volunteers are also expected to fill out an IVP evaluation form and to send IVP a detailed report of their experience.

Your warranty

You also certify that the information that you have given is true and correct.
